Research groups
Our online-first Distributed Research Hub is organised into specialist groups spanning Maritime and Physics.
Our research groups are currently being developed through teaching-led projects, applied demonstrations, and early-stage research activities.
Maritime

Maritime Environment
We study marine biofouling and antifouling—eco-friendly coatings, surface treatments, and sensor-based monitoring with field trials.

Data-Driven Shipping and Maritime Autonomous Navigation
We design reconfigurable sensing and control for AUV/ASV platforms, including software-defined sonar and secure links.

Maritime Language Intelligence
We study the origins of nautical terminology in Greek, Latin, and other languages, and apply machine learning to develop maritime communication tools.
Physics

Computational Physics
We develop and apply embedding method and modern numerics for open-system quantum transport and device modelling.

Nanophotonics and Metamaterials
We study plasmonic/photonic waveguides and metasurfaces, linking modelling to compact sensing concepts.

Quantum Technologies and FPGA Instrumentation
We develop FPGA-based photon-counting and timing platforms for quantum technologies and precision measurement.
FPGA-related research and instrumentation activities are supported by the AMD University Program (AUP) through access to Vivado Enterprise.
