Physics for Industry & Innovation (MSc)
Code PX401
Modules 6
Duration 12 months
Registration Opening March 2026
Credits 90 ECTS-aligned
Tuition Fees €5,500
Overview
The MSc Physics for Industry & Innovation delivers advanced, industry-oriented training across quantum & photonics and computational & maritime systems. You’ll blend rigorous theory with reproducible computational labs (Python/GPU) and embedded/FPGA mini-projects, designing and validating real instruments and data pipelines. Each 10-ECTS module can stand alone as a micro-credential. The 30-ECTS thesis targets an industry or research problem; company-based projects and NDAs are supported.
Objectives
- Advance knowledge in quantum, photonics, computation, and sensing with direct industrial relevance.
- Build robust skills in scientific computing, HPC/GPU, and FPGA/embedded instrumentation.
- Conduct reproducible research with sound data management, uncertainty analysis, and ethics.
- Deliver deployable prototypes and publishable studies addressing real-world challenges.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates will be able to:
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of quantum mechanics, photonics, and computational physics.
- Select and apply appropriate mathematical and numerical methods (PDEs, Green’s/embedding, optimisation).
- Design reproducible workflows (Git, environments, CI), quantify uncertainty, and communicate results clearly.
- Apply machine learning for physics with calibration, uncertainty, and interpretability.
- Prototype sensor/instrumentation stacks using FPGA/embedded systems and integrate with Python pipelines.
- Plan and execute an independent research project culminating in a defended thesis.
